Casual Mobile Mechanic Assistant
Support a qualified mobile mechanic with preparation, safe working, tools, parts and accurate job updates. Driving is not required, but the role is mobile and you must reliably reach the agreed meeting point.
What you will do
Support a qualified mobile mechanic with preparation, safe working, tools, parts and accurate job updates. Driving is not required, but the role is mobile and you must reliably reach the agreed meeting point.
This is a genuinely mobile role. Work takes place at suitable customer homes and workplaces, so every team member must be dependable, respectful of customer property and prepared to stop when a location or task cannot be made safe.
What we stand for
Honesty
Report what you find, what you have done and what remains uncertain. Never sell work a customer does not need.
Integrity
Follow safe methods and agreed scope even when nobody is watching. Protect vehicles, parts, data and customer trust.
Accountability
Own the update, the parts reference and the finish. Raise mistakes early so the team can put them right.
Minimum criteria
- Level 2 vehicle maintenance, current study towards a recognised vehicle qualification, or relevant hands-on experience that can be assessed.
- Able to read job instructions, record parts accurately and write a short, clear update.
- A safe approach to tools, lifting, housekeeping and customer property.
- Reliable attendance and willingness to learn under supervision.
Important: a motor mechanic is not a generally licensed occupation in the UK. These are SSK’s hiring standards. Equivalent experience is considered fairly and practical competence is verified before unsupervised work.
Useful, but not essential
- Workshop or roadside experience
- Basic diagnostic-tool familiarity
- First-aid or health-and-safety training
Pay, working pattern and benefits
From £12.71 an hour, negotiable. Final pay reflects evidence, experience and the agreed hours. Pay will always meet the applicable legal minimum.
- 30 days’ paid annual leave pro rata; bank-holiday treatment is confirmed in the offer
- Training and supervised development
- Digital job records and office support
- Three-month probation with structured review
Casual work is availability-based: work is offered when suitable jobs arise, there is no guarantee of hours, and you may accept or decline an offer without an exclusivity requirement. Employment status and statutory rights will be stated in writing.
How selection works
- Online application and CV review against the same role criteria.
- A short conversation and, where appropriate, a reasonable job-related practical assessment.
- Conditional checks: right to work, references, and relevant licence/qualification evidence.
- Written offer and three-month probation plan.
We do not automatically reject candidates for grammar or a criminal-record answer. We ask only about relevant unspent convictions at application stage and assess information fairly in context. A normal mobile-mechanic role is not advertised as eligible for Standard or Enhanced DBS checking.
Fair access
We welcome applications from people with different backgrounds. Tell us in the application if you need a reasonable adjustment for the application, interview or practical assessment. We do not ask general health or disability questions before a conditional offer.
