Separate friction wear from hydraulic failure
A slipping clutch, difficult gear selection, low pedal or vibration need different repairs. We check whether the clutch, dual-mass flywheel, master cylinder or slave cylinder is responsible.
Clutch and internal slave-cylinder jobs need gearbox removal and are workshop work. External hydraulic repairs may be mobile depending on access.

When SSK supplies parts, the quote is prepared after the registration and job are checked. Exact brand and availability are confirmed before payment.
Brands shown are familiar manufacturer examples, not a guarantee that a particular brand fits every vehicle or an endorsement by its owner.
How is the clutch behaving?
These signs narrow down the sensible first step. They are not a diagnosis: two faults can feel very similar from the driver’s seat.
Revs rise without matching speed
Clutch friction slip is likely, especially under load or in higher gears.

A dual-mass flywheel is possible, but mounts and other rotating parts can sound similar.
Investigate the vibrationPedal stays low or feels soft
Hydraulic leakage or master/slave cylinder failure may prevent disengagement.

Only make checks that your vehicle handbook permits, with the car safely parked, switched off and cool where relevant.
- Note whether the fault is worse hot, uphill, under acceleration or during every gear change.
- Check for fluid around the pedal or under the gearbox without reaching underneath.
- Do not repeatedly force the car into gear; record pedal position and any noise instead.

Clutch & Flywheel Replacement
Clutch kit and dual-mass flywheel replaced together at our garage, which is the combination we recommend on almost every car. The gearbox has to come out either way, so doing the flywheel later means paying that same labour a second time.
Clutch Kit Only (Keeping Your Flywheel)
Clutch plate, cover and release bearing replaced at our garage, reusing your existing flywheel. Only sensible if the flywheel is confirmed to be in good condition, and we will inspect and tell you once it is out.
Clutch, Flywheel & Slave Cylinder
The complete job at our garage: clutch, dual-mass flywheel and the concentric slave cylinder that sits inside the bellhousing. The slave is already exposed with the gearbox out, so adding it now costs very little and saves a repeat of the whole job if it later leaks.
Flywheel (Dual-Mass) Replacement
Replaces just the dual-mass flywheel at our garage. Symptoms are a rattle at idle that goes when you press the clutch, and a shudder as you pull away.
Clutch Master Cylinder
Replaces the cylinder at the clutch pedal end. Book this for a pedal that sinks to the floor and stays there, or one that has gone soft with no visible leak underneath.
Clutch Slave Cylinder (External)
Replaces an externally mounted slave cylinder, which is a straightforward job that does not need the gearbox out. Symptoms are a leaking cylinder and a clutch that will not fully disengage.
Clutch Fluid Change
Replaces the hydraulic fluid in the clutch system. Worth trying first for a slightly spongy clutch pedal, because it costs a fraction of what a cylinder replacement does.
Clutch Slave Cylinder (Concentric / Internal)
Replaces a concentric slave cylinder that sits inside the bellhousing, which means removing the gearbox at our garage. Because the clutch is right there once it is apart, we will always quote you the clutch at the same time.
You do not need to diagnose the car yourself
If the symptom is unclear, intermittent or affects more than one system, choose our Find The Fault service. We investigate the cause, explain it in plain English and price the right repair before parts are ordered.
Clutch & Flywheel FAQs
Do I always need a flywheel with a clutch?
No. The flywheel is inspected for play, heat damage, noise and surface condition. Replacing it is sensible only when out of specification or when the chosen job includes it.
Can a clutch be replaced at home?
Clutch replacement normally requires gearbox removal and safe lifting, so SSK routes it to the workshop and can arrange collection where available.
Why is my clutch pedal soft but the clutch does not slip?
Hydraulic master or slave cylinder faults, air or fluid loss can stop the clutch disengaging without friction slip.
Can SSK Mechanics do this at my home or workplace?
Many clutch & flywheel jobs are mobile. Services needing a vehicle lift, controlled workshop equipment or high-voltage isolation are marked as workshop jobs; where available, SSK arranges collection and return.
What if I choose the wrong service?
If you cannot confidently match the symptom to a job, choose Find The Fault instead. The technician investigates the cause and explains the correct repair before parts are ordered, helping you avoid paying for a guessed part.
