How can we help?
Find answers to common questions about our mobile mechanic service, pricing, coverage, and more.
Booking
How do I book a mobile mechanic?+
Book online at sskmechanics.com/book — enter your registration, select services, pick a date and time, and confirm. You can also call us on 01274 442192 or message via WhatsApp.
How far in advance do I need to book?+
Most services can be booked with 1-2 days notice. Recovery and wrong fuel emergencies can often be same-day. We recommend booking 2-3 days ahead for weekend slots.
Can I book for today?+
Same-day bookings are available for recovery and emergencies. For servicing and repairs, the earliest slot is typically the next day, depending on availability.
Can I cancel or reschedule my booking?+
Yes. Free cancellation with more than 24 hours notice if no parts have been ordered. Rescheduling is free with 24 hours notice. See our full cancellations policy for details.
What happens if my mechanic is running late?+
We will contact you by phone or SMS if there is any delay. If the delay exceeds 30 minutes, you can reschedule at no charge.
Can I be present during the repair?+
You are welcome to watch but it is not required. Many customers hand over the keys and go about their day. We will call you if anything unexpected arises.
Do I need to provide any tools or equipment?+
No. Our vans carry professional diagnostic equipment, lifts, power tools, and all standard parts. You just need to provide access to the vehicle on a firm, level surface.
What if I am not at home when the mechanic arrives?+
If someone else can provide access to the vehicle, that is fine. Otherwise, please contact us to reschedule. A no-show charge may apply.
Can I book multiple services at once?+
Absolutely. Our booking wizard lets you select multiple services in a single appointment. Bundle deals may apply — for example, front and rear brake pads together save 10%.
How do I track my booking status?+
You will receive email confirmations at each stage: booking received, confirmed, mechanic en route, and work completed. You can also check your booking in the My Account section.
Pricing
How much does a mobile mechanic cost?+
Prices depend on the service and your vehicle. Our labour rates are highly competitive. Fixed-price packages start from £100 (MOT collection) to £189 (major service). Enter your reg on our website for an instant quote.
Are your prices cheaper than a main dealer?+
Typically 30-50% cheaper. We use the same quality parts but our overheads are lower — no expensive showroom or reception staff. The saving is passed directly to you.
Do I pay for parts separately?+
Unless the service is a fixed-price package (like our MOT at £100 or Full Service at £139), parts are quoted separately on top of the labour price. We always confirm the total before starting.
Is there a call-out fee?+
For formula-priced services there is a standard call-out fee included in the quoted price. Fixed-price services include everything — no hidden charges.
Do prices include VAT?+
Yes. All prices shown on our website and in quotes include VAT at the prevailing rate.
Are there any hidden charges?+
No. We quote upfront before any work begins. If additional work is needed, we contact you for approval first. You never pay for work you have not authorised.
What payment methods do you accept?+
Card payments via Stripe (Visa, Mastercard, Amex), PayPal, and bank transfer. We can send a payment link by email or SMS for your convenience.
Do I pay before or after the work?+
Payment is taken after the work is completed and you are satisfied. For larger jobs, we may request a deposit when parts are ordered on your behalf.
Can I get a discount for multiple services?+
Yes — we offer bundle deals. For example, front and rear brake pads together save 10%, and a Full Service plus MOT saves 10%. Bundles are shown automatically during booking.
Do you offer fleet pricing for businesses?+
Yes. Volume discounts are available for businesses with 5 or more vehicles. Contact us for a bespoke fleet quote at bookings@sskmechanics.com.
Services
What services do you offer?+
We offer 150+ services across 15 categories: car servicing, MOT, diagnostics, brakes, engine repairs, clutch replacement, suspension, steering, electrical, exhaust, timing belts, air conditioning, bodywork, recovery, and scrap vehicle collection.
Do you service electric vehicles (EVs)?+
Yes. We service hybrid and fully electric vehicles including Tesla, Nissan Leaf, BMW i-series, and others. EV-specific services include battery health checks, brake fluid changes, and software diagnostics.
Can you do a full service at my home?+
Yes. Our Full Annual Service (£139) is done at your home or workplace. It includes oil and filter change, air filter, cabin filter, spark plugs (petrol), comprehensive brake check, suspension inspection, and full diagnostic scan.
What is the difference between an interim and full service?+
An Interim Service (£109) covers oil and filter change, fluid top-ups, and basic checks — ideal at 6 months. A Full Service (£139) adds air filter, cabin filter, spark plugs, and a more thorough inspection. A Major Service (£189) adds transmission fluid, coolant flush, and detailed underside check.
Do you replace timing belts?+
Yes. Timing belt (and chain) replacement is one of our most-booked services. We strongly recommend replacing the water pump at the same time to avoid a repeat labour charge later.
Can you fix a warning light on my dashboard?+
Yes. Book a Diagnostic Session — we scan all ECUs with professional equipment, identify the fault code, and either fix it on the spot or quote for the repair.
Do you do clutch replacements?+
Yes. Clutch replacement requires a vehicle ramp, so we collect your car, do the work at our workshop, and return it — typically same-day or next-morning.
Can you repair my air conditioning?+
Yes. We offer AC regas, leak detection, compressor replacement, and full system diagnostics. AC regas is a mobile service; compressor replacement is a workshop job.
Do you do bodywork and dent repairs?+
Yes. We offer mobile dent removal (PDR), scratch repair, bumper scuff repair, alloy refurbishment, and full panel resprays. Get a free quote at sskmechanics.com/bodywork.
What is your wrong fuel fix service?+
If you have put petrol in a diesel or diesel in a petrol car, do not start the engine. We come to you, drain the contaminated fuel, flush the lines, and refill with the correct fuel. Fixed price: £49.
Coverage
What areas do you cover?+
We cover a 10-mile radius from our Bradford HQ at BD7 3HG. That includes all of Bradford, Shipley, Keighley, Ilkley, Pudsey, Cleckheaton, Brighouse, Guiseley, Bingley, Baildon, and 50+ surrounding areas. Check your postcode at sskmechanics.com/coverage.
Can you come to my workplace?+
Yes. Many of our customers book services at their workplace. We just need a firm, level parking space with enough room to work safely.
Do you cover Leeds?+
Parts of west Leeds fall within our zone — Pudsey, Farsley, Bramley, Stanningley, and Horsforth are all covered. Central Leeds is outside our standard zone but contact us to discuss.
Do you cover Halifax?+
Parts of Halifax closest to Bradford — Shelf, Hipperholme, Northowram, Lightcliffe — are within our zone. Central Halifax is at the edge. Check your postcode on our coverage page.
Is there an extra charge if I live outside your zone?+
For locations just outside our standard 10-mile zone, we may be able to help with a small distance surcharge. Call us to discuss.
Where is your workshop?+
Our registered office is at 528 Great Horton Road, Bradford BD7 3HG. This is an office address, not a workshop. For ramp-required jobs we collect your vehicle, complete the work, and return it.
Warranty
What warranty do you offer?+
12-month parts and labour warranty when we source the parts. 3-month labour-only warranty when you supply your own parts. See our full warranty policy at sskmechanics.com/warranty.
What happens if a part fails within the warranty period?+
Contact us with your booking reference. We arrange an inspection within 3 working days. If the failure is covered, we repair or replace at no charge.
Does the warranty cover wear and tear?+
No. Normal wear and tear is excluded — for example, brake pads wearing down through normal driving. The warranty covers manufacturing defects and workmanship errors.
Is the warranty transferable if I sell my car?+
No. The warranty applies only to the person who booked the original service.
What parts do you use?+
We use OEM or OE-equivalent parts from reputable suppliers: Bosch, Brembo, TRW, Pagid, LuK, Mann, Mahle, and others. We do not use budget pattern parts unless specifically requested.
Can I supply my own parts?+
Yes. We are happy to fit customer-supplied parts. However, we can only warranty our workmanship (3 months), not the part itself, as we have no control over its quality or origin.
Vehicles
Do you work on all car makes?+
Yes. We service and repair all makes including Ford, Vauxhall, VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Toyota, Kia, Hyundai, Tesla, Jaguar, Land Rover, and 40+ more.
Do you work on vans?+
Yes. We service small and medium vans (up to 3.5t) — Ford Transit, VW Transporter, Mercedes Sprinter, Vauxhall Vivaro, and similar.
My car is over 10 years old. Can you still service it?+
Yes. We service vehicles of all ages. Older vehicles may attract a small age markup on formula-priced services to account for additional time and care required.
Do you work on premium or luxury cars?+
Yes. We service Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, Porsche, Bentley, and other premium marques. Our technicians carry manufacturer-level diagnostic equipment.
Can I get a free vehicle check?+
Yes. Visit sskmechanics.com/reg-check to run a free DVLA and DVSA check on any UK vehicle. Shows MOT history, tax status, recalls, and basic vehicle details.
MOT
Do you do MOT tests?+
We do not operate a DVSA-approved MOT test lane. Instead, we offer an MOT Collect and Return service (£100) — we collect your car, take it to a certified MOT centre, and return it with the results.
What does the MOT Collect and Return include?+
Collection from your home or workplace, the official DVSA MOT test (£54.85 fee included), and return delivery. You receive a full digital report. Price: £100 all-in.
Can you fix MOT failures?+
Yes. If your car fails, we can repair the failure items and rebook the free retest. We give you a quote for the repairs before proceeding.
How often does my car need an MOT?+
Every car over 3 years old in the UK needs an annual MOT test. You can check when yours is due for free at sskmechanics.com/reg-check.
What is a Pre-MOT Inspection?+
Our Pre-MOT Inspection (£110) is a full check of everything the MOT examiner will test — lights, brakes, suspension, emissions, tyres, steering. We flag anything that needs fixing before you take it for the test, so you avoid a costly retest.
Can I book a service and MOT together?+
Yes. Our Full Service + MOT bundle saves 10% compared to booking separately.
Payment
How do I pay?+
We accept card payments (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) via Stripe, PayPal, and bank transfer. Payment is taken after the work is completed.
Can I pay in cash?+
We prefer card or digital payments for safety and record-keeping. If you can only pay in cash, please let us know when booking so we can arrange.
Do you offer finance or payment plans?+
Not currently. All work is paid in full on completion or via payment link. For larger jobs, we can discuss splitting the payment.
How do refunds work?+
Refunds are processed to your original payment method. Card refunds take 3-5 working days; PayPal refunds take 1-2 days. See our cancellations policy for full details.
Will I receive an invoice?+
Yes. You receive an itemised invoice by email after every job, showing parts, labour, and total cost including VAT.
