Clear the restriction — and the reason it happened
A DPF or emissions warning can be caused by driving pattern, a failed sensor, air or fuel faults, EGR trouble or a genuinely blocked filter. Replacing the most expensive part first is rarely the best test.
We offer DPF regeneration and cleaning, sensor and EGR work, exhaust sections and after-treatment repairs. Diagnosis decides whether cleaning, repair or replacement is appropriate.

When SSK supplies parts, the quote is prepared after the registration and job are checked. Exact brand and availability are confirmed before payment.
Brands shown are familiar manufacturer examples, not a guarantee that a particular brand fits every vehicle or an endorsement by its owner.
What exhaust or emissions sign do you have?
These signs narrow down the sensible first step. They are not a diagnosis: two faults can feel very similar from the driver’s seat.
DPF light has just appeared
A forced regeneration may help only when soot loading and underlying conditions allow it; codes and live values matter.

A split section, joint, flexi, gasket or mount can leak. The location determines the correct repair.

The failure reading and stored faults help distinguish engine-control problems from an exhausted catalyst or DPF.
Book emissions repairSafe exhaust observations
Only make checks that your vehicle handbook permits, with the car safely parked, switched off and cool where relevant.
- Keep the MOT emissions printout or photograph it for the technician.
- Note warning messages, reduced-power mode and whether the car mainly makes short journeys.
- Listen from outside while parked for a blow, but do not touch or crawl under a hot or unsupported vehicle.

DPF Deep Clean (On The Car)
Chemical cleaning of the diesel particulate filter in place, followed by a forced regeneration. The step to take when a forced regeneration alone has failed and before you consider a replacement filter.
DPF Forced Regeneration
We command the engine to burn off the soot trapped in your diesel particulate filter using diagnostic equipment. The cheapest DPF outcome and usually enough if the light has only just appeared and the filter is not yet fully blocked.
Emissions MOT Failure Repair
Your car failed its MOT on emissions and you need it fixed and retested. We diagnose the actual cause, which is usually a sensor, the EGR, the cat or simply a car that has not had a proper run, and fix only what is needed.
AdBlue Top-Up
We come to you and fill your AdBlue tank. Worth booking rather than ignoring, because once the countdown reaches zero the car will not restart at all.
EGR Valve Replacement
Replaces the exhaust gas recirculation valve, which clogs with soot on short-journey diesels. Symptoms are limp mode, black smoke, rough idling and an engine management light.
EGR Valve Clean (Remove & Decarbonise)
Removes the EGR valve, clears the soot and carbon from the valve and its accessible passages, then refits it with the required gasket. Cleaning is suitable for a valve that is sticking because of deposits; an electrically failed or damaged valve still needs replacement.
Catalytic Converter Replacement
Replaces a failed or stolen catalytic converter. Usual signs are an emissions MOT failure, a P0420 fault code, a rattle from underneath, or a very loud car if it has been cut out and stolen.
Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor
Replaces the sensor that measures oxygen in the exhaust so the engine can set the fuel mixture. A failed one causes an engine light, poor economy and an emissions MOT failure.

You do not need to diagnose the car yourself
If the symptom is unclear, intermittent or affects more than one system, choose our Find The Fault service. We investigate the cause, explain it in plain English and price the right repair before parts are ordered.
Exhaust & Emissions FAQs
Will a motorway drive always clear a DPF light?
No. Regeneration needs the right soot load, temperature and fault-free supporting systems. Continuing to drive with some faults can worsen blockage or damage.
Should I replace a DPF when it is blocked?
Not automatically. Some filters can be regenerated or professionally cleaned, but ash loading, physical damage and the cause of blockage determine the result.
Can an exhaust leak affect MOT emissions?
Yes. Leaks can alter gas flow and sensor readings, while engine, catalyst and after-treatment faults can also raise emissions. The test result and inspection guide the repair.
Can SSK Mechanics do this at my home or workplace?
Many exhaust & emissions jobs are mobile. Services needing a vehicle lift, controlled workshop equipment or high-voltage isolation are marked as workshop jobs; where available, SSK arranges collection and return.
What if I choose the wrong service?
If you cannot confidently match the symptom to a job, choose Find The Fault instead. The technician investigates the cause and explains the correct repair before parts are ordered, helping you avoid paying for a guessed part.
