Chery servicing, diagnostics and repairs
Book the vehicle, derivative and job—not a generic badge
SSK Mechanics accepts suitable Chery work across Bradford and West Yorkshire. The team confirms the registration, model, engine or powertrain, service history and symptoms before accepting specialist or workshop-dependent work.
Chery models and variants
The current make registry includes Tiggo 7, Tiggo 8, Tiggo 9. This list is descriptive, not a promise that every job on every derivative can be completed mobile. Registration-specific checks decide parts, fluids, tools and the safest repair setting.
Common Chery issues our technicians see in Bradford
- Vehicle-specific fault history must be confirmed from the registration, age and diagnostic evidence
Chery is newly established in the UK market. We check the exact model, powertrain, parts route and mobile suitability before booking.
When SSK supplies parts, the quote is prepared after the registration and job are checked. Exact brand and availability are confirmed before payment.
Brands shown are familiar manufacturer examples, not a guarantee that a particular brand fits every vehicle or an endorsement by its owner.
A mobile mechanic who already knows the new wave of Chinese SUVs
Seen a Chery, an Omoda or a Jaecoo on the school run in Bradford lately? You're not imagining it. These badges have gone from nowhere on UK roads to genuinely common in about two years, and West Yorkshire has its fair share of them. If you've just bought one, you've probably already worked out that finding someone who knows what they're looking at isn't as simple as it is with a Ford or a Vauxhall.
That's where we come in. SSK Mechanics is a mobile mechanic covering Bradford and the wider West Yorkshire area, including Leeds, Halifax, Huddersfield, Wakefield and the towns in between. We come to your home or your workplace with the tools and the knowledge to service, diagnose and repair your car on your drive, rather than making you sit in a dealership waiting room for half a day.
We work on all makes and models, and Chery Group's UK range - Chery-badged Tiggo models, Omoda, and Jaecoo - is one we're building real, hands-on experience with as more of them land on West Yorkshire roads. If you'd rather not drive across the district to a franchise dealer every time your car needs attention, get an instant quote on our booking page and we'll come to you instead.
Chery is brand new to the UK - and we'll be straight with you about that
Let's deal with the obvious question first: how much does anyone really know about these cars yet? Chery Automobile has been building vehicles in China since 1997 and is now the country's largest vehicle exporter, but as a retail brand on UK roads, this is still early days. Omoda arrived in Britain in May 2024 with the Omoda 5 and Omoda E5. The core Chery-badged Tiggo range followed later that year. Sister brand Jaecoo launched here in January 2025 with the J7. That means the oldest of these cars has only been on UK roads for around two years.
We think that's worth saying plainly, because plenty of garages will happily tell you they're "experts" in a brand that's barely old enough to have a UK MOT history, let alone a genuine multi-year fault record. There's no What Car? reliability survey data for these models yet. There's no long list of well-documented common faults, because there hasn't been time for one to build up. Anyone claiming otherwise is guessing.
What we can honestly offer you is this: we're one of the mobile mechanics in Bradford and West Yorkshire paying close attention to this new wave of Chinese SUV brands as they arrive, and we understand the powertrains underneath them - turbocharged direct-injection petrol engines, dual-clutch automatic gearboxes, hybrid and plug-in hybrid systems, and full electric drivetrains - because those technologies aren't new, even if the badge on the bonnet is. That's a genuinely useful combination: familiarity with the mechanical fundamentals, paired with honesty about what nobody can claim to know yet.
Every Chery, Omoda and Jaecoo model we work on
Whichever model you're driving, we can service, diagnose and repair it at your home or workplace. The current range includes:
The Omoda 5, a petrol crossover SUV that kicked off the brand's UK launch, and the Omoda E5, its fully electric sibling with a 61kWh battery and a WLTP range of around 257 miles. The Jaecoo J7 (also badged Jaecoo 7), available as petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid, with the PHEV making up the majority of J7 sales in the UK. The smaller Jaecoo J5 and electric Jaecoo E5, due to reach UK dealers in 2026. And the Chery-badged Tiggo 4, Tiggo 7, Tiggo 8 and Tiggo 9 - a compact hybrid SUV, a five-seat mid-sizer, a seven-seat family SUV and a large seven-seat flagship, respectively.
Whether yours is a petrol Tiggo, a PHEV Jaecoo or a battery-electric Omoda E5, we can work on it. If you're not sure exactly which model or engine you've got, use our registration check when you book and we'll confirm the details before anything's arranged.
Servicing that keeps your 7-year warranty intact
Here's the single most important thing to know if you own one of these cars: every Chery, Omoda and Jaecoo sold new in the UK comes with a 7-year/100,000-mile warranty, backed by 7 years of roadside assistance. That's one of the longest cover packages available on any new car sold in Britain today, and it's a big part of why these brands have found buyers so quickly. It's genuinely worth protecting.
Keeping that warranty valid means sticking to the manufacturer's specified service schedule, exactly as set out in your car's own service book or handbook. There's a persistent myth that only a main dealer can carry out warranty-qualifying work - that's not true under UK and EU law. What matters is that the work is done to the manufacturer's specification, using the correct parts and fluids, and properly recorded. That's exactly how we work: every service we carry out follows the schedule for your specific model, uses the right oil, filters and fluids for the job, and is documented so your warranty stays intact.
We offer both interim and full servicing depending on your mileage and how long it's been since the last one. Book a service through us and we'll confirm exactly what your model is due, at your car, before anything is carried out - and we'll give you an itemised quote up front, so there's no surprise invoice waiting for you at the end.
Diagnostics built for turbo-petrol, hybrid, PHEV and electric powertrains
Chery Group's UK models cover almost every powertrain type on sale today, and each one needs a slightly different diagnostic approach. The petrol range generally uses a 1.5 to 1.6 litre turbocharged engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox - a common, well-understood combination used across the industry, even if this particular application of it is new to UK roads. UK reviewers testing the Jaecoo J7 and similar models have noted the petrol/DCT pairing can feel a little coarse under load, with occasional gearbox hesitation, and that real-world fuel economy tends to fall short of the official WLTP figures - one early J7 petrol test returned around 27mpg against a 37.7mpg WLTP claim. We'd stress that's early press impression rather than an established fault pattern, but it's exactly the kind of thing worth having properly checked if your own car feels off.
The Jaecoo J7 and Chery Tiggo 4 add hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants into the mix, which bring their own set of checks: hybrid battery health, cooling system performance for that battery, and the interaction between the electric motor and the combustion engine. The Omoda E5, and the upcoming Jaecoo E5, are full battery-electric, which is a different discipline again - high-voltage system checks, charging diagnostics and battery management.
Whatever's under the bonnet (or under the floor, in the case of the electric models), our diagnostics service uses proper fault-code reading and hands-on inspection to work out what's actually wrong, rather than guessing and replacing parts on spec. If your dashboard's showing a warning light, or something just doesn't feel right, that's exactly the kind of job worth getting looked at before it turns into something bigger.
Brakes, DCT gearboxes and the parts that actually need attention
A few components on this range are worth flagging specifically, not because we've seen a wave of failures - we haven't, and we won't pretend otherwise - but because they're the parts that genuinely benefit from proactive care on this type of vehicle.
Turbocharged, direct-injection petrol engines like the ones fitted across the Tiggo, Omoda and Jaecoo range put more demand on engine oil than older, naturally aspirated units. They need the correct low-ash, turbo-rated oil specification, changed on schedule, to protect the turbo and keep carbon build-up under control. We use the right spec for your engine, not whatever's cheapest on the shelf.
The 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox fitted to the petrol models isn't "sealed for life" in any meaningful sense - in practice, DCT fluid needs changing on a documented schedule to keep the clutch packs and gear changes smooth. Skipping this is one of the more common ways owners end up with the hesitant, jerky shifts that some early UK reviews mentioned. We check and service the gearbox as part of a proper transmission service, in line with what the manufacturer specifies.
On the electric and hybrid models, regenerative braking means the friction brakes do less day-to-day work than on a conventional petrol car. That sounds like a good thing, and mostly it is, but it also means brake discs and calipers can be used less often and are more prone to surface corrosion or a caliper starting to seize if they're not checked periodically. We build a proper look at the brakes into our servicing on hybrid and electric models for exactly this reason, rather than waiting for a warning light or a grinding noise.
Heavier hybrid and electric models also tend to wear tyres faster than an equivalent petrol car, thanks to the extra weight of the battery pack and the instant torque from the electric motor. If you're driving an Omoda E5 or a plug-in hybrid J7, it's worth having tyre wear and wheel alignment checked more often than you might on a lighter petrol car - something we can build into a routine visit.
12V batteries, cooling systems and electrical checks
Every hybrid, PHEV and EV still relies on a conventional 12V battery to run the lights, infotainment and low-voltage electronics, separate from the main high-voltage battery that drives the car. That 12V battery works harder in these cars than in a normal petrol model, because it's constantly waking systems up and putting them back to sleep, and a weak one is a common cause of odd electrical gremlins or a car that won't start even though the "main" battery is fine. We check this as a matter of course.
The cooling system for the high-voltage battery is another area worth keeping an eye on - it's what stops the battery overheating in daily use and protects its long-term health. If you notice reduced range, unusual charging behaviour, or the car limiting its own performance, a cooling system or battery management issue is one of the first things worth ruling out, and it's covered under our cooling system and electrical work.
ADAS calibration after bodywork, glass or wheel work
Most of this range comes with driver-assistance cameras and radar as standard - lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and similar systems, all of which rely on sensors mounted around the car reading the road accurately. If you've had a windscreen replaced, a bumper repaired after a knock, or new wheel alignment carried out, those sensors can end up slightly out of calibration even when the physical repair itself was done perfectly.
An out-of-calibration ADAS system doesn't always announce itself with a warning light - sometimes it just means the lane-keeping nudges the wheel at the wrong moment, or the adaptive cruise brakes later than it should. Given how new this driver-assistance tech is on these specific models, it's worth having it checked any time you've had bodywork, glass or suspension work done, rather than assuming it's fine.
What it costs vs a franchise dealer
We won't invent a percentage saving figure, because we don't think unverified numbers help you make a decision. What we can tell you honestly is how the comparison actually works. Main dealer servicing usually means booking weeks ahead, taking time off work to drop the car and pick it up again, and paying dealer overhead costs baked into the invoice - the showroom, the reception desk, the courtesy car fleet.
We don't carry those overheads, because we don't have a showroom. We come to you, at your home or your workplace, and give you a full itemised quote before any work starts, built from your car's actual registration and the parts your specific model needs. There's no guesswork and nothing added on once the car's already up on the ramp. You see exactly what you're paying for and why, every time.
And because keeping your 7-year warranty intact only requires the work to be done to manufacturer specification - not necessarily at a franchise dealer - choosing an independent mobile mechanic for servicing doesn't put your warranty at risk, provided the job's done properly and recorded. That's exactly how we operate.
Why West Yorkshire drivers choose SSK Mechanics over a dealer
Convenience is the obvious one. You don't lose half a day sitting in a dealership, and you don't need a second car or a lift to get to and from the garage. We come to you, whether that's your driveway in Shipley or the car park at work in Halifax.
Then there's transparency. You get an itemised quote before we touch the car, built from your actual registration, so you know the cost up front rather than finding out at the till. Every technician we send out is qualified and insured, and we work on your Chery, Omoda or Jaecoo the same way we'd want our own car looked after - properly, and without cutting corners because the brand's unfamiliar to us.
And honestly, because this range is still so new, plenty of independent garages simply won't touch it yet - some don't have the diagnostic access, others just don't want the hassle of learning a new platform. We've made a point of getting to grips with it early, so you're not stuck choosing between an overstretched dealer network and a garage that shrugs and says "never worked on one of those before."

Frequently asked questions
Will using SSK Mechanics for servicing affect my Chery, Omoda or Jaecoo warranty?
No. UK law doesn't require you to use a main dealer to keep a manufacturer warranty valid. What matters is that servicing follows the manufacturer's specified schedule, uses the correct parts and fluids, and is properly recorded - which is exactly how we work.
Do you know about common faults on Chery, Omoda and Jaecoo models?
These brands only launched in the UK from 2024 onwards, so there isn't yet a genuine multi-year UK fault history to draw on - and we won't pretend otherwise. What we do bring is solid experience with the underlying technology these cars use: turbo petrol engines, dual-clutch gearboxes, hybrid, PHEV and EV systems.
Can you service a plug-in hybrid or fully electric model like the Omoda E5?
Yes. We work on the full range, including hybrid and plug-in hybrid Jaecoo J7 models and the battery-electric Omoda E5, covering everything from routine servicing to high-voltage system diagnostics.
