XPENG servicing, diagnostics and repairs
Book the vehicle, derivative and job—not a generic badge
SSK Mechanics accepts suitable XPENG work across Bradford and West Yorkshire. The team confirms the registration, model, engine or powertrain, service history and symptoms before accepting specialist or workshop-dependent work.
XPENG models and variants
The current make registry includes G6, G9. This list is descriptive, not a promise that every job on every derivative can be completed mobile. Registration-specific checks decide parts, fluids, tools and the safest repair setting.
Common XPENG issues our technicians see in Bradford
- Vehicle-specific fault history must be confirmed from the registration, age and diagnostic evidence
XPENG is a newer UK-market electric marque. Registration, battery system, parts availability and mobile suitability are checked before booking.
When SSK supplies parts, the quote is prepared after the registration and job are checked. Exact brand and availability are confirmed before payment.
Brands shown are familiar manufacturer examples, not a guarantee that a particular brand fits every vehicle or an endorsement by its owner.
A brand new EV needs a mechanic who actually understands EVs
XPeng only started selling cars in the UK in early 2025. If you've bought one, you're one of the very first owners in the country to run one day-to-day - which is exciting, but it also means you're ahead of the infrastructure that usually builds up around a new car brand. Dealer networks are still expanding. Independent garages that have "seen a few of these before" don't really exist yet. And most local mechanics simply haven't had an XPeng on their ramp.
That's where we come in. SSK Mechanics is a mobile mechanic covering Bradford and the wider West Yorkshire area, and while we won't pretend we've fixed a thousand XPengs, we work on high-voltage electric vehicles from all makers every week. The G6 is built on the same fundamentals as every other modern BEV - a traction battery, an electric drive unit, regenerative braking, a thermal management system and a car that's managed largely through software. Those are systems we understand deeply, whatever badge is on the bonnet.
If you'd rather not drive to a dealership two counties away for something as routine as an annual service, or you just want a second opinion that isn't tied to a sales target, we'll come to your home or workplace, carry out the work, and give you an honest, itemised quote before we touch the car. You can see exactly what that looks like by heading to /book/ and entering your registration.
Meet the XPeng G6 - and what's coming after it
The G6 is the model XPeng chose to launch the UK with, and right now it's the only XPeng you'll genuinely find on UK roads and driveways. It's a mid-size electric SUV, priced from around £39,590 to £49,990 when new (used examples are starting to appear from around £35,240), with a real-world range that varies from roughly 220 to 300 miles depending on which battery size you've got. UK reviewers have generally liked what they've found inside it - Carwow, for example, scored it 8 out of 10 for interior quality, describing it as well-built and genuinely premium-feeling, if a little unremarkable to actually drive.
XPeng has been public about wanting to grow its UK presence, with plans for around 20 retail locations and a wider model line-up that's expected to eventually include the G9 SUV, the P7 saloon, the P5, the seven-seat X9 and the smaller G3i. As of now, though, those are models to look forward to rather than cars you'll find parked on a British street. If you're driving one of those internationally and it's found its way to West Yorkshire, or if you're an early G6 owner, the servicing principles below apply either way - it's the same electric drivetrain philosophy underneath.
Servicing to XPeng's own schedule - without the dealer mark-up
XPeng's official UK guidance is a service every 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes round first. That's a fairly conventional interval for a modern EV, and it's one we can carry out to the letter, using the same checks and standards a franchise workshop would apply - because a service schedule isn't a secret, it's a published maintenance plan, and any competent mobile mechanic can follow it.
Where we differ from a dealership is overhead. A franchise service centre is carrying showroom costs, brand-mandated facilities and a sales operation on top of the actual spanner work. A mobile mechanic isn't. That doesn't mean we can promise you a specific percentage off a dealer invoice - we won't quote you a saving figure we can't stand behind - but it does mean our pricing model is built around doing the job, not funding a forecourt. You'll get a transparent, itemised quote before any work starts, generated instantly once you enter your registration at /book/, so you know exactly what you're paying for and why.
On a BEV like the G6, an annual service looks a little different from what you'd expect on a petrol or diesel car. There's no engine oil or oil filter to change. Instead, the checklist covers things like brake fluid condition and its scheduled replacement (even though the pads and discs themselves wear far more slowly thanks to regenerative braking), coolant checks for the battery and drive unit's thermal management loop, 12V auxiliary battery health (this smaller battery still runs the car's low-voltage systems and is a genuinely common source of unrelated EV faults if it's neglected), cabin air filtration, tyre wear and alignment, and a check that the car's software is up to date. Full details of what a standard service covers are on our /servicing/ page.
Tyres, suspension and the weight an EV carries around
One thing a lot of new EV owners don't expect is how much the extra weight of a battery pack changes the wear pattern on the rest of the car. The G6's battery adds a genuine chunk of mass compared with an equivalent petrol SUV, and that weight has to go somewhere every time you turn a corner, brake, or hit a pothole. In practice, it lands on the tyres and the suspension.
Tyres on an EV tend to wear faster than the same tyre would on a combustion car of similar size, partly because of the extra weight and partly because instant electric torque puts more strain on the contact patch every time you pull away. Many EV owners fit specific low-rolling-resistance tyres rated for the extra load, and keeping an eye on tread depth and pressure matters more here than it did on your last car. We check tyre condition as part of every service, and if you notice uneven wear or the car pulling to one side between visits, it's worth getting looked at rather than waiting for the next scheduled check.
The same logic applies to suspension. Springs, dampers and bushes are all working a little harder to control that extra mass, particularly over rough roads and speed bumps - and West Yorkshire has no shortage of either. A worn bush or a tired damper doesn't always announce itself with a warning light; sometimes it's just a slightly softer, vaguer feel through the wheel, or a knock over bumps that wasn't there before. If that sounds familiar, it's worth a proper look rather than something to just live with.
EV diagnostics built for cars like the G6
Modern EVs like the G6 are managed almost entirely through onboard software and a network of electronic control units, so proper diagnostics matter more than ever - a warning light on an electric car can mean anything from a genuinely serious battery fault to a sensor hiccup that needs nothing more than a reset. Getting that read correctly the first time saves you money and worry.
Our diagnostic approach doesn't rely on having a shelf of brand-specific fault history for XPeng, because that history genuinely doesn't exist yet in the UK - and we'd rather tell you that plainly than make something up. What we do bring is a solid, transferable understanding of how BEV platforms actually work: how the battery management system talks to the rest of the car, how regenerative braking interacts with the physical brakes, how the drive unit's cooling system behaves under load, and how to properly interrogate the electronics rather than guess. You can read more about how we approach fault-finding on /diagnostics/.
If something does throw up a warning light or an unfamiliar noise, we'll always be upfront if a fix needs specialist manufacturer software or a dealer-only tool - that's honest servicing, not a sales pitch, and it's rare rather than routine.
Brakes, cooling and the electrics that actually matter on an EV
Because regenerative braking does most of the day-to-day slowing down on a car like the G6, the friction brakes get used far less than on a petrol equivalent. That sounds like good news - and mostly it is, pads and discs tend to last longer - but it comes with a catch that a lot of owners don't expect: brakes that don't get exercised regularly can seize, corrode or develop uneven wear if they're left completely unused for long stretches, and brake fluid still absorbs moisture over time and needs replacing to a schedule regardless of how little the pedal's been pressed. We check and service brakes with that EV-specific pattern in mind, not by treating them like a conventional car's.
The cooling system on an electric car is doing a very different job to a combustion engine's radiator - it's managing the temperature of the battery pack and the drive electronics, keeping them in the narrow range they need to perform properly and stay healthy long-term. A neglected cooling system on a BEV can quietly shorten the life of components that are genuinely expensive to replace, so it's not a corner worth cutting.
And then there's the electrical system more broadly - the 12V battery, the wiring looms, the sensors and control units that everything else in the car depends on. On a software-managed EV, electrical faults tend to show up as odd, hard-to-pin-down symptoms rather than a simple no-start, so proper diagnostic equipment and a methodical approach matter more here than on an older, simpler car.
Everyday habits that keep a G6 healthy between services
A fair amount of what keeps any EV running well happens between services, not during them, and a lot of it comes down to charging habits rather than anything mechanical. Keeping the battery between roughly 20% and 80% for daily use, rather than routinely charging to 100% or running it right down to empty, is generally kinder to long-term battery health - most manufacturers, XPeng included, say much the same thing in their own owner guidance.
Rapid charging is genuinely useful and nothing to be scared of, but leaning on it constantly for every top-up, rather than as the exception for longer journeys, tends to generate more heat cycling in the pack than a slower home charge does. None of this is about being precious with the car - it's the same kind of common-sense habit as not redlining a petrol engine from cold, just adapted for a battery instead of pistons.
It's also worth giving the car a drive every so often even if you mostly work from home or do short local trips. Letting any car sit completely unused for long stretches isn't great for it, and on an EV it's specifically the brakes, the 12V battery and the tyres (through flat-spotting) that tend to suffer first. If your G6 spends most of its time parked outside a Bradford terrace rather than out on the road, a fortnightly run is a cheap way to head off exactly the kind of niggling faults that are hardest to diagnose after the fact.
No fault history yet - and that's exactly why it's worth choosing us carefully
We want to be straight with you about something a lot of garages won't be: there's no established UK reliability data for XPeng. No What Car? Reliability Survey entries, no long-term breakdown statistics, no independent record of common faults, because the brand simply hasn't been on UK roads long enough to generate that kind of information. Any workshop claiming to know "typical XPeng problems" at this point is guessing, and we're not going to do that to you.
What we can offer instead is honesty and genuine competence with the technology underneath the badge. A BEV's core systems - battery, motor, regenerative braking, thermal management, high-voltage safety - work on well-understood engineering principles, whether the manufacturer is XPeng, Tesla, or one of the more established names. We already work on electric vehicles across those principles (you'll find a similar approach on our Tesla page, for instance), and we're ready to build up XPeng-specific experience as the UK fleet grows, rather than pretending we already have a decade of it.
If something on your G6 does turn out to need a genuine dealer diagnosis - a firmware-locked issue, for example - we'll tell you that outright instead of guessing at a fix. That's a better relationship than one where a garage never admits the limits of what it can do.
Warranty-safe servicing, done at home or work
XPeng backs the G6 with a 7-year/100,000-mile vehicle warranty and a separate 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty - both genuinely strong figures. A common worry we hear from owners of newer brands is whether using an independent mechanic will void that cover. It won't, provided the work is carried out to the manufacturer's specified schedule, with the right parts and fluids, and properly documented - which is exactly how we operate. UK law (the Block Exemption Regulation) protects your right to use an independent mechanic for routine servicing without affecting a manufacturer warranty, as long as the work meets the required standard.
That means you can have your G6 serviced by us, on your own driveway or at your workplace car park, on the correct 12-month/12,000-mile cycle, and keep both warranties fully intact. No trip to a dealership, no day off work, no waiting room.
What actually happens when we come to your G6
Booking online doesn't mean you lose the personal touch - if anything it removes the bits that waste your time. Once you've entered your registration and booked a slot at /book/, we agree a time and a location that suits you: home, workplace, wherever the car happens to be parked that day. There's no need to take time off to sit in a dealership waiting room or arrange a courtesy car.
On the day, we turn up with the tools and parts needed for the job already agreed in your itemised quote, so there's no upselling once we're stood next to the car. We carry out the work to the manufacturer's schedule, talk you through anything we find, and leave you with a clear record of what's been done - useful both for your own peace of mind and for keeping that warranty paperwork trail intact. If anything comes up mid-job that wasn't on the original quote, we'll always talk to you about it and get your go-ahead before doing anything extra, not present you with a surprise bill afterwards.
Why choose SSK Mechanics over a franchise dealer
A franchise dealership will always get you a technician trained specifically on that one brand - that's a genuine advantage for very complex, brand-locked repairs, and we won't claim otherwise. But for the servicing, diagnostics and general mechanical work that makes up most of what any car needs, a qualified, insured mobile mechanic gives you several things a dealer generally doesn't:
You get a fixed, itemised quote before any work starts - not an estimate that grows once the car's already on the ramp. You don't lose a morning driving to a dealership and waiting around, because we come to you. You're dealing with the same mechanic each time rather than whoever's free on the day. And because we work across all makes and models, not just one manufacturer's range, we bring broad mechanical and EV experience to every job, not a narrow, brand-only playbook.
All our technicians are fully qualified and insured, and every job starts with a clear, transparent quote - no vague estimates, no surprises on the invoice. It's the same standard of honesty we've applied throughout this page: real facts about the car, real facts about what we can offer, nothing invented to sound more impressive than it is.

Frequently asked questions
Will using SSK Mechanics affect my XPeng's warranty?
No. UK law protects your right to have routine servicing done by an independent mechanic without affecting your manufacturer warranty, as long as the work follows the correct schedule and uses the right parts and fluids - which is exactly how we work. Your 7-year vehicle warranty and 8-year battery warranty stay intact.
Have you worked on XPeng cars before?
XPeng is a genuinely new arrival to the UK, having only launched here in early 2025, so there's no long-established brand history anywhere yet - we won't pretend otherwise. What we bring is real, hands-on experience with electric vehicle platforms generally: battery systems, regenerative braking, thermal management and high-voltage electronics, all of which the G6 shares with other modern BEVs.
How much does a service cost compared to an XPeng dealer?
We can't quote you a specific saving percentage without knowing your car and location, and we won't invent one. What we can promise is a transparent, itemised quote before any work starts, with no dealership overheads built into the price. Enter your registration at /book/ for an instant, honest quote.
What does a mobile service actually involve for an EV like the G6?
We come to your home or workplace and carry out the manufacturer's 12-month/12,000-mile service schedule on-site - checking brake fluid, coolant for the battery and drive unit, the 12V auxiliary battery, tyre wear, cabin filtration and software status. There's no engine oil to change on a BEV, so the checklist looks different from a petrol car's, but it's just as thorough.
Do you cover my area?
We're based in Bradford and cover the wider West Yorkshire district, including Leeds, Halifax, Huddersfield, Wakefield and the towns and villages between them. Check /coverage/ for full details, or just enter your postcode and registration at /book/ to get started.
