Air Conditioning
The air conditioning system cools and dehumidifies cabin air using a refrigerant gas (R134a or R1234yf) compressed and expanded through a sealed circuit.
Components
The air conditioning consists of: AC compressor, condenser, evaporator, expansion valve, receiver/drier, AC refrigerant, AC pipes and hoses, cabin temperature sensor, blower motor.
Petrol & diesel vehicles
AC systems are identical across petrol and diesel vehicles. The compressor is belt-driven from the engine.
Hybrid & electric vehicles
Electric vehicles use an electric AC compressor (no engine belt). The AC system doubles as a heat pump in some EVs, providing cabin heating efficiently.
Common faults
The most common air conditioning faults we see across Bradford and West Yorkshire include: AC blowing warm air, weak airflow, musty smell from vents, AC compressor noise, visible refrigerant leak (oily residue), AC light flashing.
If you notice any of these symptoms, book a diagnostic session or call us on 01274 442192.
