Exhaust System
The exhaust system routes combustion gases away from the engine, reduces noise, and cleans emissions through catalytic converters and diesel particulate filters.
Components
The exhaust system consists of: exhaust manifold, catalytic converter, diesel particulate filter (DPF), lambda sensors (O2 sensors), exhaust pipes, silencer (muffler), exhaust hangers, EGR valve, flexi pipe.
Petrol & diesel vehicles
Petrol vehicles have catalytic converters but no DPF. Diesel vehicles have both a catalytic converter and a DPF which traps soot particles.
Hybrid & electric vehicles
Fully electric vehicles have no exhaust system. Hybrid vehicles have a complete exhaust system identical to conventional vehicles.
Common faults
The most common exhaust system faults we see across Bradford and West Yorkshire include: loud exhaust noise, rattling under the car, exhaust smell in the cabin, DPF warning light (diesel), black or blue smoke, failed MOT emissions, catalytic converter theft.
If you notice any of these symptoms, book a diagnostic session or call us on 01274 442192.
