Components
The engine (mechanical) consists of: cylinder head, cylinder block, pistons, crankshaft, camshaft, timing belt/chain, head gasket, oil pump, water pump, turbocharger/supercharger, engine mounts, oil filter, sump/oil pan.
Petrol & diesel vehicles
Petrol engines use spark plugs for ignition and typically rev higher than diesels. They require spark plug replacement every 30,000-60,000 miles.
Hybrid & electric vehicles
Fully electric vehicles have no internal combustion engine. Hybrid vehicles have a smaller engine paired with an electric motor. The engine in a hybrid typically requires less maintenance due to reduced running time.
