Suspension

The suspension system connects the wheels to the chassis, absorbing road imperfections and keeping the tyres in contact with the road. It directly affects ride comfort, handling, and tyre wear.

Components

The suspension consists of: coil springs, shock absorbers (dampers), struts (MacPherson), anti-roll bar, drop links, wishbones (control arms), ball joints, bushes, top mounts, subframe.

Petrol & diesel vehicles

Suspension components are identical across petrol, diesel, and hybrid vehicles of the same model.

Hybrid & electric vehicles

Electric vehicles are heavier due to battery packs, which puts more stress on suspension components. Springs and dampers may wear faster, and some EVs use air suspension which requires specialist diagnosis.

Common faults

The most common suspension faults we see across Bradford and West Yorkshire include: knocking or clunking over bumps, excessive body roll in corners, uneven tyre wear, car pulling to one side, bouncy or wallowy ride, visible spring breakage, MOT advisory on suspension.

If you notice any of these symptoms, book a diagnostic session or call us on 01274 442192.
