Wheel Bearings
Wheel bearings allow the wheels to rotate freely with minimal friction. Each wheel has a bearing that supports the weight of the vehicle while enabling smooth rotation.
Components
The wheel bearings consists of: wheel bearing (sealed unit or tapered roller), hub assembly, ABS ring/tone ring, hub nut, stub axle.
Petrol & diesel vehicles
Wheel bearing design is identical across all fuel types for the same vehicle model.
Hybrid & electric vehicles
EV wheel bearings may wear slightly faster due to the additional vehicle weight from the battery pack, especially on rear bearings of rear-heavy EVs.
Common faults
The most common wheel bearings faults we see across Bradford and West Yorkshire include: humming or droning noise that changes with speed, noise louder on turns, vibration through steering wheel, ABS warning light, uneven tyre wear.
